In October 2024, the Logic Stars Group launched a research project for students from the Higher School of Economics (HSE University) and the Russian Foreign Trade Academy. The project, titled "The Impact of Cross-Cultural Factors on the Motivation of Young Professionals in Russian-Chinese Projects," aims to develop new professional competencies among future specialists and enhance intercultural interaction.
Over 25 students from both universities took part in the project competition. The teams chose their own research topics and delved into the similarities and differences between Russian and Chinese business practices, communication styles, conflict behavior, and other aspects shaped by cultural differences. They studied the theory but also went out into the field, interviewing business professionals, surveying experts, and talking to students who are currently studying in China. Many had to put their knowledge into practice since they worked closely with students from China on their projects.
Five teams from the two universities reached the final round of the competition and presented their findings to a panel of judges. The jury consisted of well-respected experts in international business, cross-cultural communication, and management, including leaders from major companies, China specialists, and representatives from academia and government. The judges praised the students for their work and highlighted the practical significance of the recommendations and conclusions they made throughout their research.
The winning team, led by Tatyana Beketova, came from HSE University and they focused on cross-cultural factors related to conflict prevention. This team excelled in their qualitative research, surveying over 30 Chinese employees and conducting several interviews, all while impressing the judges with their engaging presentation style. Their insights and recommendations are valuable for both businesses and universities looking to strengthen their ties with China.
Second place went to the "Sun at Zenith" team from the Russian Foreign Trade Academy, which examined the specifics of cooperation between Russia and China in the technology trade sector.
All participating teams were awarded commemorative prizes and certificates, while the top two teams were invited to intern with the Logic Stars Group.
We believe that working together on projects like this between businesses and universities is a vital step toward sustainable development. It not only helps students build practical skills but also fosters better intercultural relations. This project gave students a unique chance to gain hands-on experience collaborating with international teams, and the internships for the winning teams will be a crucial next step in their professional journeys.
